Philadelphia woman sues Meta for Instagram addiction and eating disorder.
Pennsylvania – August 10, 2022
A Philadelphia woman has filed a lawsuit for her addiction to Meta’s platforms as a minor causing her lingering depression and an eating disorder, among other conditions. The 21-year-old Roxborough resident filed suit in Philadelphia federal court last week naming Meta Platforms, Inc., Instagram, and various Facebook corporate entities for harms caused to her for knowingly exploiting her as a child to drive corporate products.
Addiction caused lingering mental and physical harms.
The claimant states in her suit that she began using Facebook and Instagram while she was a minor and quickly became addicted. She claims that the content that the platforms pushed out to her and the methods they used initially led to a lack of sleep and a decline in her desire to do anything other than be on them. Eventually her interactions with Facebook and Instagram caused her to develop several injuries, including an eating disorder, body dysmorphia, depression, and repeated periods of suicidal ideation, among other things. Individuals who have experienced any harmful effects of the use of Meta platforms should seek legal counsel to see if they have a case for compensation to address their harms.
